Rose Duhon-Sells’ recognition
The National Association for Multicultural Education celebrated its 20th anniversary by honoring the founder, Dr. Rose Duhon-Sells, at their annual conference in Las Vegas, Nevada held November 4-6, 2010. The conference was dedicated in honor of the founder with the opening ceremony articulating some of the organization’s accomplishments. Thursday, November 5, there was a reception entitled “Roses for our Rose” where friends and acquaintances presented Dr. Duhon-Sells with a rose and a story about how she impacted their personal lives. She was presented at the President’s Banquet a statue of the Sankofa bird, which symbolizes the way in which Dr. Duhon-Sells has conducted her life- constantly reaching back to lift up others. Her entire family was there for this celebration, which made it all the more meaningful.
